We install
new lawns, or restore deteriorated ones. Whatever your choice,
we see that proper prior soil preparation is implemented. We
will test your soil, grade the land if needed, fertilize and
plant. We either seed the lawn or replace with sod depending
on the your preference.
The best time to plant a lawn from seed is late April through May and late August
to early October. Spring and fall provide favorable growing conditions for cool
season lawn grasses as the rains are abundant and it gives ample time for a well
established root system before the hot summer heat or the winter sets in.
If we are restoring an existing lawn, we over seed it if it contains less than
50 percent weeds. Sod can provide a lawn in a shorter time than seed. A prime
disadvantage of sod is the limited number of grass species included in sod mixes.
Most sod is a blend of several Kentucky bluegrass cultivars. |

Sodding can be done when the soil is dry enough to work, and
the sod will have enough time to root before winter. Unlike with
new lawns that are seeded, sod must be watered heavily every
day after laying the sod until the roots have begun growing into
the soil. This usually takes two to three weeks. Then reduce
watering gradually. New sod should not be fertilized for the
first season. |
